This research draws on the concept of situated choreography, understood as a set of choreographic practices that take situation as a compositional principle and conceive space as a relational and experiential dimension. From this perspective, dance and choreography do not take place within a pre-existing space, rather they actively participate in its producing space as an ongoing process through practice. This approach enables an investigation into how choreographic creation generates spatialities and, reciprocally, how space produces choreographies, particularly within the context of the former Carandiru, an ancient Brazilian prison. The research is conducted in Brazil at the Etec de Artes and Parque da Juventude schools, which have occupied the former São Paulo House of Detention, popularly known as Carandiru, under the same pillars, floors, and walls that once constituted the prison. Marked by one of the most violent prison massacres in Brazilian history, this site has been transformed into an educational space. Situated within this context, the research aims to investigate, through and with the moving body, the traces inscribed in space, while fostering the emergence of other possible gestures and choreographies in collaboration with young and adult students of these institutions.
