Student disengagement remains a critical challenge in secondary education, with many learners demonstrating low motivation, limited participation, and declining academic performance. This workshop introduces the SPARK framework, a research-informed model addressing five key drivers of motivation: Self-Efficacy, Purpose, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Knowledge of Progress. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory, Expectancy-Value Theory, and Growth Mindset research, the SPARK framework provides educators with a practical diagnostic tool to identify the root causes of disengagement and apply targeted strategies. Through interactive activities, including student case analysis and collaborative planning, participants will explore how small, consistent classroom practices can significantly improve student engagement and learning outcomes. This session responds to global concerns about student disengagement and its impact on equity, achievement, and well-being. The SPARK framework is adaptable across subjects and educational contexts and requires no additional resources. Participants will leave with practical strategies and a structured weekly model that can be implemented immediately to support student motivation and sustained engagement.
